Join Our Playground Revitalization Efforts

Our 25-year old community playground, located on the Forest Heights School site, is in desperate need of replacement. As sections are closed-off to protect the safety of our children, several of our community members are rallying to raise funds for replacement play equipment.

HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD?

Our vision isn’t simply a new playground. It’s to do our part in seeing Forest Heights claim its place as a revitalized community where people of all ages and abilities stay, play, and enjoy a full host of sustainable amenities.

We believe that a welcoming, accessible, inclusive, year-round place for play in the green space beside our elementary school is an investment in our future as a mature neighbourhood. It’s part and parcel to the plans that we see for:

  • New commercial and residential developments

  • Pedestrian safety and transportation upgrades

  • Community League and resident-led programs and events

WHO USES THIS PLAYGROUND?

The Forest Heights Elementary School Playground is open to everyone. It’s a 25-year old community playground on school land. It’s used daily by more than 270 children who attend pre-school to Grade Six at the Forest Heights Elementary School and frequently by after-school programs, local sport teams, and community members seeking a welcoming outdoor area.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO BUILD?

We are seeking to fully replace the existing Forest Heights Elementary School Playground with a welcoming, accessible, inclusive, year-round place for play.

Our design reflects our students and community partners’ needs and imaginations, local business’ financial and in-kind contributions, parents’ time and energy and modern safety and accessibility best practices. We will use recycled materials to create a visually stimulating, barrier-free rubber surface and engaging, multi-level play elements.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU LOOKING TO RAISE?

Raising the funds to revitalize the Forest Heights Elementary School Playground is no small feat. We are seeking to raise $350,000 in a timespan of fewer than five years.

We hope to do this through a combination of community donations and secured grant funding. As of December 2019, we are really just beginning our fundraising journey.

HOW CAN I HELP?

There are many ways to help, and no commitment is too big or too small. Please contact jilltucker@gmail.com for general inquiries.

Please consider:

  • Joining our Friends of Forest Heights Playground Revitalization Committee – our committee meets on a semi-regular basis to plan and implement fundraising opportunities.

  • Making a tax deductible donation (contact jilltucker@gmail.com)

We also have two other fundraisers that are active on an ongoing basis, where the playground receives a percentage of online sales. Please consider participating.

A Forest Heights Playground Bottle Drive will be held on April 10. You can drop your bottles off to the school parking lot on April 10 before 2 PM. If you would like bottles picked up, please email FHSplayground@gmail.com with your address. Please let your family and friends know too!
